In 2003 Anne Cryer raised concerns about street grooming by groups of largely Pakistani men in the town. We are still waiting for some accountability from those who did too late to help those girls
You sound confused, some of your points are valid .. the length of time etc .. though I have a report in the Rotherham Advertiser from 1975 on my system. This is a conspiracy, they are hiding the fact that children were removed from parents and then transported 100's of miles from their homes. They were pimped out by social care officers (One of the Rotherham mass convictions demonstrates this), the police were told to arrest the wrong people and walk away by .... someone in authority, the research person from the govt was placed in a quiet room in Rotherham council to shield her from finding the truth and then bullied back to her offices. The taxi drivers were still getting licences despite having convictions, supplied by council officials. Social care people were bullied into resigning when they questioned the actions. The govt did tell people to ignore them and the victims were told to shut uup for the sake of diversity... the list goes on and these people need to be seeked out and removed from office at the very least and sent for trial as a minimum.
I expect that there is a very long list of people in authority who did the wrong thing and allowed the tragedy to continue for years. I hope these people and the appalling procedures and policies they followed are exposed. I would like them to feel some shame.
It may be true that this kind of abhorrent sexual behaviour is not unique to Pakistani men, but it is significant because it made it harder for the cases to be pursued for fear of accusations of racism. Also, it is significant that Pakistani communities were not more ready to condemn these terrible crimes.
I am disappointed at how quickly politicians and journalists are making this party political with attempts to blame the other side. There are still people saying “Nothing to see here”. Polly Toynbee this morning repeated the lie that 80% of these rapes were committed by white men… and what was Badenoch’s press conference about?
They should be focussed on finding justice for the 1000s of girls who were abused and shaming the people who let them down, not scoring political points.
“The matter of so-called grooming gangs is back in the media because the government has announced a tough crackdown on the problem. “ So no more drag acts in infant schools and teachers telling children they can chose whether they are Arthur or Martha or something else?

Thank you for this, Simon.

Well written and poignant. Thank you.
